Friday:
And so it begins. Though it was a bit of a slow start to be honest. Typical me. First I had to create some CD’s to exchange with the lovely Janessa. Then I had to finish reading some books. And of course the requisite workout and shower. And then it was all about packing up the car and heading on my way.
And then I got lost. Who’s surprised about this turn of events? No one really. But I eventually arrived in time for some delicious home made pizza and the preparation of super special (re: alcoholic) hot chocolate for the hay ride. There was some bundling up as well.
The hay ride was good fun as well, lots of pretty Christmas lights and eventually some very frozen toes. Fortunately these were cured by the hot tub. Then it was time for a little ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ (any girls guilty pleasure) and finally bed.
Saturday:
For starters, CCraig and I actually got up and out of the house on time, which in and of itself is a miracle. On the way to St. Catharines to pick up Miss Snippe, we stopped at Ikea for the express purpose of finding a magnet board for my New York magnets. And we found one! Hooray! We also found an elephant. It is lovely. After our little sojourn to Ikea we headed into St. Caths, grabbed Janessa and set out for the Fort Erie border crossing.
Did I mention that I was driving? That sort of adds to the adventure. And if you don’t believe me, ask the passengers. Anyhow. We made it to and through the border. (Guards response to the ‘we’re going shopping’: ‘of course you are’, but still, through the border).
The Walden Galleria was totally new territory for me, big, pretty and a little busy, but still good fun. We found a ‘Hot Topic’ (apparently others knew about this phenomenon, but I was previously unaware) where we all purchased fabulous hats and I found underwear about a sad panda. It sort of goes without saying that that came home with me too. We hit a few other stores that were new to us (re: me) and then went to a Walmart to procure some flavoured pop for CCraig.
The Walmart candy section is way more exciting in Buffalo.
Once back in St. Caths, we called on an old friend of mine (and got lost again on the way - I am so good at driving places) then we went downtown. We had dinner at a little place called Jumpin’ Jaks, where we once used to stumble post bar for chicken caesar pitas and fries. It was just as delicious as I rememered. After dinner we were off to The Chili Pepper, for a full out evening of nostalgia.
Pretty sure I am now too old for bars in university towns. Depressing.
Sunday:
It was a slow start, sleeping in and changing the music on my Ipod. Then it was off to TO for some ‘will she, won’t she’ tattoo optioning for CCraig and to visit a friend of mine while wandering Queen St. We had lunch at the Queen Mother Cafe and the pad thai was delightfully epic. The rain outside was less so, but we made it through the afternoon sans tattoos but plus cupcakes. (Side note: the cupcake place is right next to the Crimpler, in case the Crimpler distracts you).
The drive home in the rain was crappy.
And there you have it. One of those perfect weekends where all of your loose concoction of ideas turn into plans, and all your plans work out accordingly. A strange and beautiful occurrence.
