The lovely CCraig is visiting me this weekend and we have been involved in all sorts of crazy shenanigans. I will probably need the rest of the week to fully recover, because since I got old this behaviour has become somewhat out of character. Let me run it down for you:
Thursday, 5pm: arrival. Then we had a lovely dinner that I barbequed and went to Zumba class. After Zumba we rushed home to shower and get ready, then we got in the car and headed to Waterloo to hang out with my baby bro and his roomies. We partook in a few libations whilst getting ready, then went out to a bar called ‘Chainsaw’. It was surprisingly fun, given that it was a karaoke bar, but that could be the whiskey remembering. After an evening of dancing in which the boys abandoned us, we headed back to the apartment and fell asleep in the living room.
Friday morning we awoke at the crack of early, thanks in part to the furniture and in part to the east facing windows with no blinds. After lazing around for a bit, we went to a nearby park and completed an almost 5 mile run (ie walking and jogging in intervals, I haven’t progressed quite as far as ‘running’ yet), went back and showered, then headed to the mall. We performed some retail therapy (ie bought outfits to wear to the bar that night because baby bro is not always forthcoming with the details) then went and saw Contagion. It was very enjoyable, as apocalypse-esque disasters go. After the movie we went back and got baby bro and one of his friends and went to some random Viatnamese / Thai place for dinner, which was surprisingly delicious. Then it was back to the apartment where vodka happened, and we hung out for a while before heading out to ‘Starlight’, ‘MacMillians’ and ‘the Fox’ for some dancing and hanging out. I had a lot of balance issues, which were totally beyond my control, obviously. We arrived alive back at the apartment, where we crashed on the futon again.
Saturday morning we awoke at the crack of even earlier, again, east windows, but this time there were also other people sleeping on the rest of the furniture, and they seemed to think it was necessary to have a discussion at normal voices in the same room. Less than impressed. Further lazing around while we watched the kids get ready for homecoming, then we hightailed it out of there because all that spirit can be daunting when none of your schools ever had a homecoming. When we got home we went on a mission for lunch, which I wanted to be chicken fingers, and took like three stops because apparently the universe was conspiring against us. And there are not that many places to stop at home, let me tell you. We went home and watched movies while gorging on takeout (Tangled, which is always a crowd pleaser, and Burlesque which I had not seen before but enjoyed) and then got ready to go out again, this time to a buck and doe in Milverton. Somewhat off our beaten path, but when these options present themselves … Mostly it was a big drafty room and we froze. Home to sleep, with extra blankets to combat the meat locker qualities of my bedroom.
This morning we got up and got ready to go to work, where I am currently having a wee of a time and she is passing the day with books and other amusements. Then tonight we are going to see Rise Against at the JLC, and I am pretty pumped about that. I have also removed the possibility of an early phonecall for school tomorrow because I know I will need to sleep in for recovery purposes. My hearing, on the other hand, may never be the same after four nights of exposure to what can only be considered ‘loud’.
